Why Should I Convert My Instagram Account to a Business Profile?

One of the benefits of a business profile is the ability to add additional contact options. Regular accounts get just one link to their website. With a business account, you can add a phone number, an email address, and even your business’s physical location. These are not mere text fields, either – they’re functional buttons! Clicking the phone number allows people to call you in the moment. The email address, when clicked, pulls up a formatted email. Clicking on the address takes you right to the map with directions – a great idea for a brick and mortar business.

With a business account you can advertise on Instagram and even easily promote a post right within the Instagram App. Just tap the Promote button on your profile and follow the prompts. It doesn’t get any easier.

You can learn a lot about your followers from Instagram analytics!

Every good marketer needs actionable analytics – and a business profile on Instagram delivers! With instagram analytics, you can see who your followers are, when they’re online, and more. Of course, with Tailwind’s SmartSchedule, we never have to worry about posting at the best time – it figures it out for us.

You might be surprised (as I was) to find out who your followers are. For example, Insights showed me that my followers are split pretty evenly between male and female and the majority are 25-34 years old and live in my home town. These are the kinds of things we all need to know in order to market more effectively.

In addition to overall account performance (pictured right), you can see insights on your individual posts and stories to see how people engage with them. Learn more about what works by finding common threads in the posts that generate the most engagement. You can get even more insights with Tailwind!

Fears that reach might be restricted after switching to a business account have kept some from taking the leap, but most agree that the benefits outweigh any possible risks. After all, 25 million businesses have made the change! Oh, and rest assured that the process of changing from a personal to business account will not cause you to lose any of your followers or posts.

But perhaps most compelling of all the reasons to switch to an Instagram business account is the newest…

  1. What if I don’t have a business and my IG account is personal ?
But wish to make use of the scheduled posting?
Should I still change to a business account?

  2. I’ve been hesitant to convert to a business account as I foresee Instagram becoming like Facebook an the pages not getting any views. My question is: if you switch to a business account, are you able to revert to a personal account later on?

  3. Hi, I have 2 instagram accounts and two of them support different segments of the same Facebook business page, one for Healthy living on a budget and one for everything else budget. Instagram won’t let me have two official business accounts for the same Facebook page. Should I drop one of the instagram accounts?

    1. Oh, that’s tough, Angela! That is really up to you, but you could create a Facebook page for one Instagram account JUST for this purpose. You don’t have to do anything with it if you don’t want to.
