Some people cringe at the thought of linking their personal Facebook account to Pinterest but if your a blogger or own a business, you may be missing an opportunity to add Facebook followers or even potential customers.
Here are tips to keep in mind when linking Facebook to your Pinterest account
Before Pinterest introduced business accounts, you had the option of linking it to your Twitter account or personal Facebook account. (For accounts that have not made the switch to a business account, this feature remains the same.)
According to the Pinterest support page, Facebook does not allow linking to business pages.
Here’s what an account with an active link to Facebook looks like:
You can connect or disconnect your Pinterest account to Facebook in the account settings. You can find your account settings by hovering over profile image located in the top right corner of any Pinterest page.
If you are absolutely sure want to keep your Pinterest account completely separate from your personal Facebook account, make sure you turn off the connection here. But, if you continue reading, you might just change your mind.
If you are the owner of the business or a blogger you might want to consider linking your Pinterest account to your personal Facebook page and make it work to your advantage. With the right settings, you can limit what is visible to the public and guide them over to your Facebook business Page.
Before you do (or if your accounts are already linked), start off by checking the public view of your personal Facebook account by clicking the gear underneath the right side of your timeline cover photo. You might be sharing some pretty private information with the public already.
To adjust the privacy settings of your account click on the triangle in the upper right side of the page. Here, you can make general privacy settings and adjust them to a level you feel comfortable with. Make sure you go through each option and set them to the level you want.
Photos posted have to be adjusted one by one. Beware, this includes each new photo you add. You wouldn’t want that funny picture of you on the beach to be seen by potential clients would you?
The about section is where you have an opportunity to guide Pinterest fans over to your existing Facebook business page. See the “Worked at” line just underneath my profile image? That is a clickable link to Oh So Pinteresting’s Facebook page!
To optimize to your Facebook About section:
- Click on “About” underneath your profile picture
- Find the work and education section on the left side
- Type in the name of your existing Facebook business page
- Click on your page’s name from the list that appears
- Include a short description including your site’s URL in the description box. (** This is a clickable link too!**)
- Next to the “where have you worked box”, click on the triangle and select public.
- Click “Done Editing”
Opening up your personal page might lead to friend requests from people you might not want to friend. If this happens, you can set up your personal Facebook account to allow subscribers, just like celebrities do.
Doing this, allows friends and subscribers to see your public posts. Just be careful to remember each time you post to select the level of privacy you want. With the recent updates to mobile apps, you can choose who sees your posts from your smart phone when you’re posting on the go.
Here’s how to allow people to subscribe to your personal page:
- Click on the triangle in the upper right side of the page
- Select account settings
- Click on Subscribers form the list on the left
- Click in the box that Allows subscribers
If you choose to link to your personal Facebook account from Pinterest, make sure to set the privacy settings at a level you’re comfortable with. I left a few things visible like where I went to school, my favorite quote and a few pictures. It’s all about being social right?
People tend to follow and do business with those they feel comfortable with. So why not go ahead show some of your fabulous personality.
